"Cloud" Yamato Indigo Dyed Recycled Cotton Watchcap
* Each indigo dyed watchcap has been individually dyed, meaning no one hat will be exactly like another and may not appear exactly as pictured in photos online. This provides each hat with a unique one-of-a-kind look. If you are very picky please email for a photo of 4 options! They also shrink a bit with the dyeing process so it will take a few wears to adjust to your head size!
Yamato Indigo is a Japanese natural-blend indigo powder dye developed by Aikuma Senryo, a company founded in 1818 in Tokyo. The company was originally a Chinese herbal apothecary and later began supplying dyeing supplies.
100% RECYCLED ECO-COTTON
What is Eco-cotton? Eco-cotton is a blend of reclaimed cotton fibers from discarded garment scraps combined with a small amount of nylon made from the incredible RPET process of recycling plastic (PET) bottles into fiber. Through a proprietary scrap fabric color matching system there are no dyes or chemicals used in the process of creating such vibrant colors from what would otherwise be textile waste.

Machine washing is fine but do not machine dry, just lay flat. Cotton stretches out a lot so after washing the hat it may feel tight, like when you first purchased it, but will stretch out quickly. BE CAREFUL WASHING OR RUBBING AGAINST ANYTHING WHITE...INDIGO WILL BLEED.(No rubbing your head on any white suede couches)
Yarn: This hat is made from RCotton. The yarn is originally milled in Spain by Ferre, a centuries old mill. Why Spain? Spain is home to the largest textile manufacturing factories in the world (Zara anyone?) and is a country that is decades ahead of any other country in recycling post-industrial and post-consumer textile waste produced by these factories. We purchase this yarn from their American partner mill, Hickory Throwing in North Carolina.
Production: Knit in Waterloo, NY by our friends and knitting partners at Mozaic Organization; a not-for-profit employing, assisting, and providing services to thousands of disabled person in the Fingerlakes, NY area. The raw knit material is then shipped in rolls to our Greenpoint, Brookyln sewing facility where it is cut, sewn, and finished by our lovely team.
Size & Fit
Length: 11-12" Inches (without fold)
Knit cotton is prone to stretch so if your hat feels a bit tight when you receive it, wearing it will quickly adjust it to your head. If you feel your hat starts to loosen too much over time, you can give it a hand-wash in warm water or machine wash in cold, lay it flat to dry, and it should spring right back. Cotton is a lighter material, so these hats are meant to be worn as transitional hats. If you would prefer a warmer option, take a look at our Upcycled Wool Watchcaps!
The watchcap is a style that's existed for well over 100 years, though it's most commonly associated with WWII US Navy personnel. A watchcap is a shorter hat, traditionally meant to be worn folded above the ears. However, you can also wear it unfolded, rolled, double-folded, etc.
